Advise for first time car buyer
I just graduated college and got my first big job. Got my Subaru at 16 years old and now I’m 24 with 160000 on it lol safe to say it’s time for a new car. But with the current market I can’t decide what the best move would be. For awhile now I’ve been looking at 25 Tacoma’s Off Road. I’ve seen new ones being 40-50k and then used ones being like 30-35k with minimal miles. I make a decent amount out of college around 5k a month after taxes rn. With my current financial situation I think I can put a 5-10k down payment down. I feel like I can afford a finance option paying around $500/month but truthfully I don’t know since I also am so new I don’t know the hidden fees for purchasing a car. I came here just to speak with people who might have any advice for a young dude trying to buy his first car. A lot of people have been telling me to buy new with the used car interest rates and prices but at the same time I just don’t know if I can afford a brand new Tacoma. Back in high school used trucks could be picked up for 10-20k but now that’s a thing of the past. From a ton of research I’m also telling myself I want the Off Road trim and not worth buying the SR or SR5, would be curious what people’s thoughts are on that. I would also love a big SUV like a 4Runner but the prices are not much different. I’m pretty convinced the Tacoma would be perfect because I could really use a mid sized truck as I’m in construction and drive lots of material I don’t need a big truck though. I considered the Chevy Colorado but after researching I’d rather get a taco. Also I’m a big out doors and travel person, would love to travel in a car one day and I also do lots of road trips. From what I see only down size of tacos are gas mileage and price.
There’s a little about me and my situation would be curious to hear other people out and what they may recommend. Appreciate any help!
