2.0 TFSI - oil consumption fixable?

Hello Audi people!

Lately I’ve been looking into getting an A5 Sportback as my daily. I really like the original design the most, so I’m mainly focusing on MY around 2010–2011. I don’t want a diesel, and it has to be a manual, which basically leaves the 2.0 TFSI 132 kW as the only real option, since fuel consumption is also a factor.

However, I’ve heard that these engines are notorious oil guzzlers and can have issues with the plastic cam chain guides.

For context, I do about 90% of the servicing on my current cars (a Saab 9-5 and a Chrysler Concorde), so working on the engine wouldn’t be a problem. My question is, can the oil consumption issue actually be fixed long-term, or is it something that will always come back sooner or later?
