Does my boss requiring me to do work while on MA PFML violate my rights?
Location: Massachusetts
I’m a sales leader for a very small startup company based in Massachusetts. Last month, my wife gave birth to our child, so I’ve been on MA PFML leave since the birth, so I’m currently being paid by the state, not my employer.
My boss has been less than respectful of this, pressured me to get back to work ASAP to drive Q4 revenue goals, has had me join multiple calls with him and other employees, has required me to continue to work by following up with sales reps for forecast updates—I literally worked for 5 hours one day last week without seeing a cent from the company.
Does this violate my MA PFML rights? Do I have any recourse other than pushing back? I fear that by pushing back, I’ll eventually deal with retaliation upon my return to work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
