Valve quietly pushed a new **beta build** last night (not the public version). It includes some interesting gameplay tweaks and a bunch of under-the-hood changes.

Here’s a quick breakdown 👇

# 🔫 Defuse changes

* Weapons are now **lowered** while defusing.
* **Aiming (scoping)** is disabled during the defuse.
* After you finish defusing, there’s a **150 ms delay** before you can shoot again.

These changes basically kill the old “fake defuse peek” timing — might be Valve’s way of testing animation consistency or anti-abuse fixes.

# ⚙️ Engine & performance

* Bullet penetration simulation has been **rewritten** to be more CPU-efficient.
* Improved **client-side particle and sound processing**, especially during heavy fire fights.
* Updated Source 2 build — should mean smoother performance and fewer micro-stutters.

# 🧩 UI tweaks

* The selected teammate is now easier to spot on the scoreboard.
* Weapon mode indicator moved closer to the ammo counter.
* Context menu in inventory now opens right where your cursor is.
* You can watch Major highlight clips directly from the spectator loadout.

# 🧠 Scripting / map stuff

* Tons of new scripting options for map creators: • New enums (CSWeaponType, CSDamageTypes, etc.) • Extended tracing methods (TraceLine, TraceSphere, TraceBox) • Better event hooks (OnPlayerDamage, OnRoundEnd, etc.) • And even a new method: `CSWeaponData.GetGearSlot()`

Basically, custom map devs are getting more power than ever before.

# 💭 Why this matters

The **defuse behavior** update is probably the most controversial — 150 ms might sound small, but in a post-plant clutch, it’s the difference between living and dying.
Some think Valve is experimenting with animation syncing or trying to remove unfair “instant shots” after fake defuses.

Still, no official patch notes yet — just this **beta-only** version that can be played **with bots**.

What do you guys think?
Is this a step toward smoother animations or a nerf to clutch mechanics?
