Hi! I got my belly button piercing in September 2024, so it’s now one year and one month old. During the first few months it was fine — just the usual redness or hyperpigmentation. Around the third month I accidentally hit it, and it got worse, but then it started healing well again for about 2–3 months.

In July, I’m not sure what happened, but it got irritated again. With the beach and my job, which involved a lot of movement, an irritation bump started to form. I downsized the jewelry because it had become too long — I assumed that might have been the cause of the irritation.

Since then, I’ve been stuck in a cycle where I get the irritation bump for about a week, then it goes away, I’m fine for another week, and then it comes back. Sometimes it’s because I accidentally bump it, but other times I don’t know why it reappears. I’m getting really frustrated and I don’t know if it’ll ever fully heal.

My cleaning routine is 1–2 times a day with saline solution, then I dry it with paper and a hairdryer. If there are crusts, I gently remove them with a Q-tip. I wanted to ask if maybe this could be an anatomy issue or what I should do. Thanks!
