Why does my cat eat anything resembling a string and how do I stop her?

My car will chew on anything resembling a string until she can chew it off and swallow it. Any clothing I own that has fringe, strings, or thing spaghetti straps can not go in the laundry hamper because my cat will get to it and chew off the strings and swallow them. She can not play with toys on strings for the same reason. She bite on my bath rug and pulls out strings of yarn n and chews on and swallows them. I woke up this morning to her eating my hair. I’m at my wits end. Why does she do this and how do I get her to stop doing this????
