How would you interpret this?
I was unfairly put on a PIP and while I was working through it they decided to shut my office down, effectively reducing force entirely. My VP was impacted but not my direct boss (as he sat in a different office). I still don’t understand what happened.
Despite my boss and I having a pretty rocky professional relationship, he really claimed to have liked me personally. He went on vacation and bought me a gift and when I went to visit the team in an offsite he went out of his way to see me and even asked to go to karaoke afterwards with the team. So you can understand how confused I was when he put me on a PIP - it got so rocky and toxic so fast. I truly thought we were friends and then he switched up like crazy. So when I was being laid off he told me to reach out if there is anything I need and that it was a pleasure working with me.
Jump forward 4 months, I saw a role that I genuinely was interested in. I took him up on his offer and reached out to him because he has a wide network and knows people personally at that company. He told me he’d help and asked me to send my resume and the job description. The next day, I got a rejection email from the company.
This feels weirdly suspicious and I could be overthinking it because there’s clearly some unhealed wounds. But is there any chance he sabotaged my chances of even getting an interview? I just find it so shady that as soon as I reach out to him about a role I get the rejection email. How would you perceive this? Any advice is helpful. I’m having a really hard time moving forward.
