Help with GalMap hand HOTAS

I use my HOTAS for almost everything in Elite. I can paste system names into GalMap using a macro (mapped CTRL+V to a throttle button with Joystick Gremlin).

When my search found the right system, I select it and the map's focus changes to the system. But it does not plot a route to the system, as it would if I selected the system with a long mouse click.

GalMap seems to lose focus. To plot the route, I have to click the "plot route" button on the right-hand panel of GalMap. Because there seems to be no focus on GalMap anymore, I have to use my mouse instead of my joystick.

Is there anything I can do not to lose or regain focus on GalMap or any other way to paste a system name into search? Help would be appreciated!
