Completely confused myself trying to tink

where did i go wrong?

Functional beginner here (used to knit as a kid and wondering whether I've lost several hundreds of braincells since then πŸ˜…

I noticed a hole/dropped stitch about a row or two down from where I am, so decided to try thinking back to that point. Despite many slow motion tutorials, I've failed to get into the swing of it and also totally confused myself about how my knitting is even meant to look between the needles. My working yarn's now 2 stitches down on the right - while trying to tink I also noticed it would get 'stuck' a stitch or 2 on the left, not leaving it in the right place to stitch.

Sidenote: Is it at all acceptable for an absolute beginner to walk into a yarn store and ask for help? Feel like I keep making mistakes that would be best addressed by a person rather than me struggling with YouTube videos
