Family member told to lose weight before GP will prescribe?
Seeking advice or similar experiences so I can give my family member good advice.
After getting diagnosed by telehealth specialist, report issued, cardio passed, but the doctor has said my family member needs to lose weight (10-15kg, so a reasonably significant barrier to treatment) before they will prescribe.
It's the same doctor who took over my own script for Fluence, so it's not an innate hesitation around schedule 8s. I don't think it's inherently a weight issue - I'm overweight too and apparently something about the lipids was outside reference - but the cardiologist gave their presentation a big green tick and has already sent forward advice to that effect.
I feel like there's so many scenarios where weight loss is only possible *because* of having things adequately treated, and equally as many scenarios where people are too *underweight* to be prescribed safely.
Does this sound a reasonable precaution that people might have some experience or advice regarding? Do we just go Full Karen? Family member is - quite bluntly - extremely unlikely to push forward without some good coaching in how they can succeed and very clear pathway. RSD is a pretty big feature across their life and their initial reaction was really upset because ... you know ... you've spent a couple grand by this point and then get told you're too fat to get treated.
