Choosing flights Barcelona-Seoul: direct or layover?
Im going to a wedding in South Korea in April and there’s two itineraries I’m considering. There’s one I clearly prefer but I’m 29 and I’m traveling with my parents (late 50s) and aunt and uncle (60s) and I’d like for them to be comfortable too.
Option 1:
Barcelona - Incheon with a 2hr layover at Helsinki with Finnair. Leaves Barcelona at 10am, arrives at 11am next day. Love it because you get to do things on your first day.
Incheon - Barcelona with a 12hr layover at Helsinki. Leaves Seoul at 9pm which again I love because you get to do things on the last day before heading to the airport. The layover is long but it’s during the day so we could potentially explore Helsinki and have lunch there before the second leg of the flight at 5pm.
This option is less than 800€ per person.
Option 2:
Barcelona - Incheon, direct flight with Asiana. Direct flights are cool but this leaves Barcelona at 9pm and arrives in Seoul at 5pm the next day, so after customs and getting to our hotel and all that jazz I don’t expect to do anything that evening. Plus in my experience this is worse for jet lag.
Incheon - Barcelona, direct flight again. This flight leaves at 11am so that’s half a day lost compared to option 1, plus we’d have to fly a day early because there’s no direct flights every day, essentially netting us two days less to explore Seoul.
This option is 1100€ per person.
I clearly prefer Option 1. It’s cheaper, the hours are better both for tourism and jet lag and I don’t think the layover is such a deal breaker. If it were overnight it’d be a different story but heading to downtown Helsinki for brunch doesn’t sound that bad in my opinion. But I’d like to hear your opinions!
