Spam Customers being set up daily

I am geting about 50 spam customers set up daily (realtively easy to spot as emails follow same sort of naming convention and they never subscribe to marketing / set up accounts etc) I am deleting them daily but it's like playing whack-a-mole ......what do the bots/spammers achieve from doing this? What is their aim does anyone know?
