Question about cleaning icons?

Can i clean Icons with something that is easily accesible (like cleaning chemicals or something like that).

I am asking because i have Icons of Theotokos and Jesus by the bed on shelf, and when i was cleaning my nose i threw the paper on the shelf and it hit/touched the icon. (I dont think it left something on Icon, but still) It was accidentaly but if it was something really bad/disrespectful i would like to know.
