On the current state of the Bills…

Buckle up because this is going to be a long rant. For some context, I’m a drought baby. I was born in 2000, and wasn’t able to watch a playoff game until I was 17. My first jersey was a Trent Edwards jersey. I grew up watching every game with my dad listening to him tell stories about the days of the Bills being a powerhouse, and of course making it to 4 straight Super Bowls. Right as I made it to early adulthood, it seemed as if the Bills were back to being a powerhouse. Obviously, we’ve never been able to get over the hump, despite many opportunities. Most recently, it seems as if our best opportunity to grab the 1 seed and home field advantage through the playoffs is slipping through our hands. In my opinion, this all boils down to 1 thing…the Drought years absolutely PETRIFIED this franchise. Terry Pegula is so terrified of missing the playoffs, or ever going back to being bad, that’s he’s fine with being “just ok”. Where this shows the most, is with the simple fact that Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane are still employed. From a coaching standpoint, McDermott should’ve been gone immediately after 13 seconds. There’s been enough discourse about McDermott in this sub over the past months/years, so I won’t beat a dead horse. Who I really want to focus on is Brandon Beane. He deserves the credit for drafting Josh Allen of course, that is a franchise altering pick. However, I don’t think a single thing boosted Beane’s ego more than making that pick. He outsmarted everyone once, and thinks he’s capable of doing it every time now. Outside of drafting Allen, there is miss after miss after miss by him. The Super Bowl last year featured 10 All Pro players combined. The year before that it was 11. Again, outside of Allen, we have no one even close to All Pro level anymore. We have a bunch of good guys, some average guys, and a lot of bad guys. On Beane’s best days, he’s an average talent evaluator. On his worst days, he’s a horrible talent evaluator. He has consistently failed to surround Allen with skill positions of value since Diggs left, and also seems to not care at all, because he knows Josh can usually bail him out. He can’t anymore. The jury is out on us now, and frankly I’m surprised it took this long to figure out. Stack the box, play man, and blitz the hell out of us. Our WRs can’t separate and we have no answer for it. To those of you thinking a trade will help us, I’m here to tell you there’s no trade coming. We have almost no cap space due to this piss poor roster construction. The team the last 2 weeks is what we should get used to, and it won’t change until we have massive personnel and philosophy changes. The only way to do that, is to get rid of McDermott and Beane. It’s time.
