Anyone else feel they're just trying to force a repeat of Morag & Luke's story onto Sarah and Dean?

S10 UK

It all feels so samey and a retread of the ol' "Nice Guys Finish Last" cliché, but it's just not landing the same way that Morag and Luke did.

Morag was established from the start as the typical girl who chases the bad boys, focused on shallow traits but was "over it" and wanted a "nice guy" to settle down with.

Luke was a "nice guy" (I mean that purely in the literal sense rather than the stereotype) who was charming, courteous, funny and also was very much fit and in shape....he was a firefighter for God's sake.

However Morag couldn't see past her shallow outlook and insisted that he wasn't for her because he wasn't built like a rugby player (even though he definitely was, he was hench) and wasn't "man enough", highlighting her own pretty toxic views of masculinity. She was villainised for it and outside of the more horrible things said about her, was pretty "deserved".

Sarah and Dean however...

Dean's personality and persona would be a turn off for a LOT of women. No offense to him and I think people here are often assuming the worst of him, but the Kids TV Presenter is typically not a thing women would go for. His overly optimistic outlook often reads as kind of creepy ("she will be mine" kind of energy) and he seems to lack a voice of his own, instead opting for blind optimism or nodding agreement when others are saying their bit. Luke on the other hand did let a lot slide, but he showed a lot more back bone.

Sarah has been very careless with her words and has been disrespectful in the context of the show...but she is no Morag. Morag appeared to feel far more vindicated in her view of "I know what I want and I deserve perfection" and the things she said directly to Luke were far more disrespectful. She seemed to only grow more confident in her view that actually she was right and everyone else was wrong, making her come across as incredibly deluded.

I think the comparison goes some way to explaining why they seem to be going so hard on Sarah, they're trying to atone for Morag who got off very lightly when it came to the experts' words to her, not realising that they're different dynamics.

Sorry for the ramble, it's just interesting seeing the similarities in the edit but the vast differences in audience reaction...
