Meursault isnt cassetti, but rather....(Theory)
Hello, im gonna be spoiling MOTWE, canto 7 and Agatha's books, i advice not reading further If you care.
I would like to propose a interesting theory about this ID so It plays more into the source material for the intervallo (Aka the Mystery). So as few may know MOTWE is based on the Murder on the Express Orient but as fewer may know is that casseti of all the La Mancha fiends isnt a DQ book character, but rather its the name of the victim in express orient murder, more specifically he's a victim that deserved to have killers, which is why casseti was a villain.
However meursault got two suspiciously things going for him, one being a New third kindred and two having grey hair. As we know, the death of a kindred does not raises one's rank, therefore this meursault had to originate directly from the bite of a Second kindred, so this couldnt be a casseti who got promoted after the events of Manager Don happened, therefore It can be a different person entirely. This adds up considering meursault has a different hair style and color than cassetti.
Now what you're obviously asking is who the character actually is, well i believe Meursault instead is based on Hercule Poirot, the detective on the book. Indirectly described and widely implied to be a man above his 60s therefore explaining why the grey hair, but also, whole the character itself isnt, the Surname Poirot he's more famously known for is from French origin; now one could mention the moustache Poirot is so proud off however in the book It is fake, It is a "mask" her wears to appear more charming and illustrious (yes this is a parallel to the bloodfiend ID as well). Poirot was also always a "stranger" in the books, as every suspects had ties with the victim or the killer in some way, where's Poirot is the one who barged in the events, which explains why Meursault comes from after the events of the family murder, quoting the book, Linda Arden looks at Poirot after he described the perfect crime and says:
"And then, at the last minute, you came…"
Another interesting aspect is that Poirot has a singular named case of shooting someone, Mr. X. On "Curtain" Mr. X was a killer who would give psychological suggestions to people in order to have them execute murders without noticing, the paralell ? Well most likely Meursault, who we have a strong suggestion to have distorted, probably shot at Carmen, not knowing she was never there to Begin with and causing the death of a innocent.
Now obviously you're asking, why would they make a detective or whatever his paralell is gonna be, a bloodfiend ?
Because i believe Sancho wanted a scout, after the events of her uptie the Manchegans are free, but they also have no proper knowledge of the World, as this is a Sancho who rejected the stories, therefore converting a modern man into a fiend not only is of great use but also allows them to proper progress with their lifes in a modern society and to reliable ways to acquire blood, meaning meursault intent is to investigate the warp train and its behaviours. This is confirmed because Meursault acquisition dialogue shows him knowing what PCorp and working hours are, something cassetti was completely clueless about, claiming the warp train to make humans appear out of nowhere. Meursault also lacks the DQ like speech cassetti had and the mask, strenghtening that his "New" is indeed after the events of La Manchaland. Now one could ask, why does Meursault have the hunger to rebuild the family as If he's the only one alive. Well, If we look at LCE, Sancho's receives the duty regardless of kindred order, mainly from being the one who remains. Therefore, what Meursault is talking about isnt that everyone is dead, but rather that he's sharing the burden after the First kindreds death. This is backed up by how Meursault refeers to rebuild differently than Casseti did, cassetti wanted to build HIS kingdom with HIS family, Meursault however doesnt refeer to It as his, but instead as "The Family", he does not see himself in a position of Power but does see himself burden by responsability, something Manager Don seems to value a lot to the point of being even a passive of hers.
In conclusion i believe we have strong evidence pointing that Meursault, while meant to reflect the role of cassetti (similar to HongLu reflecting Kong Qiu) he isnt gonna be based on Casseti himself but rather another source material of the book who inspired the entire intervallo.
Thank you for reading thus far, im eager to hear your thoughts.
