Feeling under compensated during night work
I currently manage a construction company that specializes in roadway projects (milling / reclaim). Most of our work takes place during the day, but when we have night work projects, I feel burnt out and under compensated.
The issue is, I oversee all our billing/admin items as well as the crews in the field. When we work at night, it is still expected that I answer to our office and any other relevant contacts during the day. This quickly turns my position into a 24 hour role working around the clock.
Example would be this entire 5 day week. We are working on a road from 7pm-3am. Currently, my phone has been blowing up, and I have been putting out fires since 6am. This will continue all day until I get on the road to head to the project around 5pm.
I am salary, and am not being compensated for the extra hours. Does anyone have advice, or have you dealt with similar issues before?
