Paramount Cartoon Studios/Harvey Comics/Universal (AU)

What if Paramount Cartoon Studios was sold to Harvey Comics to go big and Universal wouldn't get heavily damaged? since this is a media sub, I'll be focusing on the Harvey/MCA/Universal side of things.

This theory is interconnected to What if Viacom and MCA co-owned MTV Networks in 1990?, What if USA Network became a broadcast network until 1997? and What if Viacom and CBS didn’t demerge in 2006?

Immediately, I think the Harveytoons would be in a much better position right now. Harvey was trying to turn the Harveytoons into a sort-of Looney Tunes/Mickey Mouse-like entity, where they could be anywhere and do anything. Blackie the Lamb would be as iconic as Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse.

the entire animated library would be remained owned by Paramount until being sold to Harvey Comics.

Famous Studios would be founded in 1921 as Fleischer Studios. Famous Studios was later renamed to Paramount Cartoon Studios (1956-1958), Harvey Cartoon Studios (1958-1986), Harvey Feature Animation (1986-1990), Universal Feature Animation (1990-2006) and Universal Animation Studios (2006-present). However, Famous Studios would build its California studio after the first Noveltoons short and produces much things in House by making films and shorts.

Also, Famous Studios would acquired Alfa Circus Film and became its Italian facility in 1946.

In 1958, Paramount Cartoon Studios alongside its character rights and library are sold to Harvey Comics and renamed to Harvey Cartoon Studios, forming Harvey Corporation, which owns Harvey Comics and the newly-formed Harvey Studios.

Harvey Parks would be founded in the 1970 as a joint venture between Harvey and Herschend, with its first theme park Harveyland being built at Hudson, Texas.

Harvey Comics would be remained operating.

In 1990, MCA acquired Harvey Corporation, with Harvey Studios being merged into Universal Studios, Harvey Feature Animation and Harvey Television Animation being renamed as Universal Feature Animation and Universal Cartoon Studios and Harvey Parks being merged into MCA's theme park division.

DreamWorks wouldn’t exist, with Jeffrey Katzenberg working instead at Universal in 1994.

Universal was much better at marketing and reaching a wide audience. As such Jurassic Park, Fast and Furious, Universal's original films and animated films make even more money than in our timeline. Universal already dominated the 2000s in our timeline but in this timeline, they dominate it to a whole new level.

Panasonic and Vivendi would retained their stakes of MCA (later The Universal Company).

MCA would be renamed to The Universal Company in 1996.

The Cats animated film would never be cancelled, thanks to the relationship of Universal Feature Animation and Amblin Entertainment

Phil Nibblelink would worked at Universal Feature Animation, with Phil Nibblelink's Puss in Boots being made by Universal and Amblin.

The live-action Dr. Suess films wouldn't exist due to being considered cash-grabs.

Romeo and Juliet gets tweaked (since this film was made by Phil Nibblelink in real life).

Universal would keep Vivendi Universal Games (known as Universal Games in this AU), Canal+, Universal Music Group, Loews Cineplex Entertainment (which would be fully acquired by Universal in 2002 and renamed to Universal Cinemas), Manga Entertainment (which would be more active) and Knowledge Adventure (which would be folded in 2012).

Illumination wouldn’t exist due to being seen as a considered animation studio.

Pacific Data Images would be remained operating and compete to Pixar Animation Studios, Blue Sky Studios and Sony Pictures Animation.

Monkey Quest would remained operating.

Changes (without DreamWorks)

  • DreamWorks Interactive wouldn’t exist, with most of its games being made by Universal Interactive Studios. (possibly if Panasonic and JVC wants to make a Universal video game console, it became successful)
  • DreamWorks Records wouldn’t exist, in favor of Geffen Records.
  • GameWorks would still exist as a joint venture between Universal and Sega.
  • Go Fish Pictures wouldn’t exist, with its anime titles being made by Manga Entertainment.
  • Warner Bros. made a partnership with Aardman Animations, but Universal can't.
  • Shrek would never existed due to being seen as a considered cash cow franchise.

Acquisitions

  • Universal would acquired Chris-Craft Industries instead of News Corporation, forming Universal Stations Group.
  • Universal buys Fox Family Worldwide instead of Disney. Fox Family becomes Sparx and the Power Rangers join Universal's roster of kids' entertainment, consisting of Harveytoons, Casper, Harvey Girls, Woody Woodpecker, The Land Before Time, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon and Jumpstart.
  • Neopets, Harmonix, Rainbow S.p.A. (which would be fully owned by Universal in 2011) and Paws, Inc. would be acquired by Universal instead of Viacom, as Neopets, Winx Club and Garfield join Universal's roster of kids' entertainment, consisting of Harveytoons, Casper, Harvey Girls, Woody Woodpecker, The Land Before Time, Power Rangers, Masked Rider, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Tak and Jumpstart.
  • Universal would acquired Activision in 2008 and merged with Universal Games to become Universal Interactive Studios.
  • Universal would acquired Classic Media in 2012 and renamed as Universal Classics.
