A little help on what to do with my cat's infection

So basically, my cat got a fungal infection 2-3 months ago and it's still not healed yet. We live in a kind of remote area where finding time to go to the big city to get our cat checked again and again is kind of hard for us. Anywho, our first 2 weeks with this infection was basically just him being diagnosed and they put a recovery cone on it so he wouldn't touch it. The infection is on his forehead, close to his ears and above his eyes. After 2 weeks there wasn't much improvement so we went back and this time the vet told us to apply some ointments he prescribed for 3 weeks. We did as he said and he got a lot better. The problem is, at one point the cat was practically full healed but when we took the cone off so that he could eat he suddenly scratched himself REALLY hard and a bunch of blood got all over his paws and fur, now all his healing process has gone fully back to zero and im really worried because he looks incredibly uncomfortable and he won't even stop scratching his cone. I'm not even sure i can take it off to feed him anymore. Any advice on helping the itchiness or the overall situation? i tried lice spray (Not on his infection area) but that didn't do much either...
