My girlfriend blames me for every argument, and feels there is something wrong with me. In the end she broke up with me because i just wanted an apology
So in the beginning, our relationship was very good, i was very happy. This is the first time in my life i can say I actually fell in love with somebody (28m). After around a year of being together, we started just arguing a lot. It was over really petty things. The reason these fights blew up so much was because it got to the point where everything's my fault all the time, and she would refuse to say sorry to me for anything.... don't get me wrong, sometimes it was my fault, or both our faults, and i would apologise but id never get one back. Eventually this bothered me, it became difficult for me to be sorry. I explained to her she had to be sorry too, and that it seemed like she pinned everything on me all the time, and it was always me that was in the wrong.
Here is what our last argument was about:
Firstly, it important to know that the same day this happened we had a conversation where i told her it wasn't okay to give me silent treatment and its not okay to slam the phone down on me anymore... i told her it deeply bothers me and i thought it was effecting our relationship. She agreed.
So the argument started like this - we always video call at night before she sleeps (long distance relationship) and on this particular night we wasnt really talking and i was on my pc whilst she was just watching something on her phone. It got to a part where i wanted to wear my headphones fully for a couple of seconds because something interesting was happening and i wanted to hear it, this meant i couldn't hear her speak. In that moment she was shouting my name and i didnt hear her so she hung up the phone on me. I called back confused, and she was mad at me for not listening to her and having my headphones on, she started to say a bunch of stuff to me and ultimately hung the phone and ignored me and went to bed. I thought this whole thing was a bit of an over reaction, keep in mind i literally wore my headphones for 5 seconds and immediately called back when she hung up. I was also really annoyed she hung up on me like that when we just had a conversation about not doing that.
I called the next morning and told her that the way she handled that bothered me, and she said she couldnt be bothered to argue with me so she hung up. She also didnt feel the need to be sorry about it because it was my fault she hung the phone because i triggered this reaction from her because i ignored her. I explained that i understood why she did it but it's not okay to hurt me with something just because i did something that bothered her. This caused massive problems, we had a huge fight. In the end i apologised to her for it, and explained she needed to give me one. It annoyed her so much that i told her she needed to apologise she split up with me.
Did i deserve this from her because of what i did? Genuinely i just feel so confused, why is it so hard to just say sorry and be done with it? To me it just seems like such a simple thing made difficult... and i cant help but feel like im missing something or i have done something wrong that i just cant understand.
On many occasions she called me manipulative, told me how it was me that made her be this way. I felt like i couldn't even bring stuff up to her anymore because it would make the relationship end. I just feel like maybe i justify things to myself and that maybe something is wrong with me
