Is my vet a quack?
I’ll keep this short.
My cat is very difficult when it comes to the vet. Like, gabapentin doesn’t even work to calm her down type difficult. So I try to only bring her in when absolutely necessary, and have been looking into at-home vet options to reduce the stress around visits.
I do bring her in once a year at least (she’s only 4). We just moved so had to get a new vet. At our most recent visit (just for a check-up) I shared the difficulties about coming to the vet. She advised me to not bring my cat in unless absolutely necessary, but then she said something that gave me pause.
She told me that since my cat is 100% indoor (she has never gotten out and I’m extremely diligent in making sure this never happens. I have fences around all my doors and I do not open windows) and has so much anxiety/stress about going to the vet, that vaccinations (like regular ones for rabies and such) are just not necessary. I just agreed and went home but now I’m wondering, is this lady a quack? I’ve always been told that it is imperative to vaccinate cats yearly, and I even said that to her in response, but she told me that’s just because of the risk of them getting out.
Thoughts?
