Work life balance as a Substance Use Disorder counselor?

Currently in my Master's program, have been interested in addictions counseling, but I'm apprehensive because stories I've heard just seem like addictions centers are underfunded and understaffed, therefore the counselors are overworked and they burn out quickly.

Just wondering if anyone has current gauge of what it's like counseling at a rehab facility?

I'm in a medium city I guess, I think there are like 1 MIL in the metro area and surrounding suburbs.
