Do I also need a neck ct scan? Ct scan vs MRI for neck masses/throat cancer
I had a neck MRI done two weeks ago. I’ve been worried about throat cancer/masses ever since my gastroenterologist noticed some bumps/lesions in my hypopharnx area. Neck MRI results.
M27 **TECHNIQUE: Multiplanar multisequence acquisition from the mid calvarium up to the aortic arch prior to and following uneventful IV contrast administration.
FINDINGS: Visualized brain and cranial fossae are unremarkable. Orbits and mastoids are unremarkable bilaterally. Partially visualized paranasal sinuses and nasal cavity demonstrate mild diffuse mucosal thickening.
Partially imaged oral cavity and submandibular/sublingual spaces are without unremarkable. The submandibular, and parotid glands appear grossly within normal limits and bilaterally symmetric. The suprahyoid deep neck spaces including the parapharyngeal and retropharyngeal spaces are grossly within normal limits. Infrahyoid neck demonstrates grossly normal and bilaterally symmetric laryngeal apparati and hypopharynx.
Asymmetrically prominent right level 2A lymph node measuring up to 1.0 cm in short axis compared to the contralateral side (image 14 of series 19), indeterminate. No obvious thyroid enlargement or suspicious nodule. The carotid and jugular vessels enhance normally. Temporomandibular joints are anatomically aligned and bilaterally symmetric without abnormal joint effusion or periarticular enhancement. No acute osseous abnormality or aggressive marrow replacing lesion. Visualized cervical spine and spinal cord are unremarkable. Lung apices are unremarkable.
IMPRESSION: No acute abnormality or obvious mass lesion or enlarged cervical lymphadenopathy.**
I’m pretty worried about the lymph node.
For some history, I’ve been extremely anxious about my health the last 3 months. Spiraled and got a bunch of tests. Endoscopy, colonoscopy, ct chest, abdomen & pelvis, testicle ultrasound, cystoscopy, brain mri, heart echocardiogram and stress test, three different laryngoscopy tests, mole biopsies, crp and rheumatoid blood tests. Lyme disease test. Full std testing. Multiple COVID/flu tests. All negative as of 1.5-2.5 months ago. I also had multiple neck ultrasounds, but they predate my recent mri.
The only stuff that came back positive were ebv early antigen at 11.9 and strep A. Also the endoscopy says I had a stricture/small lower third esophagus and 16 high power field level(so I may have EOE)? Some symptoms I’ve been having are that occasionally my voice gets hoarse for a sentence or two, but 90% of the time it is fine. Sore throat and throat clearing. No B symptoms or weight loss. Sometimes I feel my skin is hot but no fever.
Would a neck ct scan show something my neck mri did not? Do I need that too?
