Chris Rice on Ty Dillon hitting tire in 21 pit at Talladega (SiriusXM NASCAR Radio - The Morning Drive)
Chris Rice from his weekly interview this morning:
"He [Ty] could've definitely backed up. I do agree with that 100% so all the listeners, you are correct. But let's say this - put yourself in a car; lower the seat; pick the dash up; and make something 12 inches tall - see if you can see it. So that's on the [10] team, that's on the crew chief, that's on the guy calling him out. That's not on Ty, right?
"Andrew is a rookie crew chief, never been in that situation in his life. The tire was in their pit stall, they did nothing wrong. John Wood and I talked. John Wood apologized, he felt like they were in the wrong - I felt like we were in the wrong.
"At the end of the day we definitely was [sic] in the wrong. I apologized to the 21 group. I apologized to the crew member that was under the car..."
He mentioned the 10 team radio traffic immediately after the incident blaming the 21 team. Essentially said the exchange occurred in the heat of battle but the 10 team was still in the wrong. He spoke to the crew chief, etc. about being more cautious towards the other crew members on pit road. "We can't do that again."
