Which line-weights work better for exaggerated and cartoony characters?

Question

I want to portray my characters as cartoon characters without making them look flat, graphic, and "comic book-y", or pop like "cut-out" stickers.

  1. Thick outlines + Thin inner lines. (Variable Lines #1)
  2. Medium outlines + Thin inner lines. (Variable Lines #2)
  3. Medium uniform lines. (Mono-weight Lines #1)
  4. Thin uniform lines. (Mono-weight Lines #2)

Come to think of it, #2 would make my characters pop (albeit not as much as cartoon-style comic book characters or the cartoon characters that have graphic and geometric designs), while #4 sounds more traditional.
