Earthly body
I am made of the places I was nurtured in
You’ll see no house or pale walls in my makeup
My curvy and irregular build
Short round trunk with cracks and bruises all along its length
Eyes reflect the canopies of a deciduous forest
Muted greens and yellows lined my world
Framed by strands of mud and earth
Matched with dark mossy water
Though i don’t often believe I am beautiful
I do believe in earthly beauty
A woman with the strength and stature of a mountain
A man’s kindness reminiscent of a young wren
My grandfather with oaken skin and a knots a plenty
They are so beautiful to me
So I try hard love my boggy self
I’m learning to love the way animals and babies see me
A soft warm resting place to lay upon
The inexplicably comfort they feel in my arms I’ve never understood
Maybe they feel the soft earth and warms winds that sculpted me and feel the same peace I did all those years ago.
