Gala's Song Structure explained

Discussion

As a music composer, I'm surprised none really talk about Gala's song structure. What makes Gala's song structure great, is that despite being almost 4 minutes, it doesn't sound dragging.

How? By tricking listeners that the whole structure is repeated twice, when in fact it's thrice.

What do you mean?

Normally people would thought the Gala's structure would be :

Intro --> Verse --> Pre-chorus --> chorus --> 2nd verse (very long) --> 3rd verse --> pre-chorus --> chorus --> dance break/ending

Now if you really listen to the instrumentals, the 2nd verse is actually the verse, pre-chorus, and chorus. Jurin and Harvey's part uses the verse instrumental, Cocona's the pre-chorus instrumental, Maya + Jurin + Harvey's part uses the chorus instrumental.

Basically, the 2nd repetition of Verse, Pre-chorus, and Chorus is paired with rap, which makes people think that the whole part is just verse. This is introduced to us listeners as verse, because of Harvey's and Maya's verse in the beginning after Hinata's and Juria's verse.

So in our first listen, our brain already registered that the verse is Hinata + Juria singing --> Rap Part. So, we think the 2nd repetition starts with Hinata and Juria again.

That's why we think the song just repeats twice, when in fact it's already thrice. Our brain thinks the long rap section is just a long verse / after chorus, but it doesn't sound dragging because of the different use of instrumentals in different parts.

So instrumental would be : intro - (verse - pre-chorus - chorus) x3 - ending

It's a really smart way to get around the structure by using lyrics and rap, without sounding dragging, especially the '2nd verse rap'. This results in a 4 min song to not sound too long, by making it sound like a twice-repeat song (mostly songs under 3 minutes).

Just my observations. Would welcome any ideas regarding this too.

Tldr; because of lyrics and rap we think the song repeat twice, but the instrumental it's actually thrice. So doesn't sound dragging despite being almost 4 minutes.
