# /r/Hockey NHL & PWHL Power Rankings Week Oct 20, 2025 - Oct 26, 2025
## Thank You
**Thank you to all of the volunteers doing the NHL & PWHL power rankings. Each ranker has their own system and have their own reasonings and analyis. It truly is a lot of work.**

## Visualization
The visualization contains historical data, so you can see how your team has done over time. Hopefully, we can run this for many years in hopes that we can see the rise and fall of teams by /r/hockey opinion.

It automatically updates so feel free to bookmark. You can find it [here](https://public.tableau.com/profile/icydata#!/vizhome/PowerRankings/rHockeyPowerRankings)

## Process
How does this work? Throughout the course of the week rankers are able to access an app that will allow them to rank teams. At the end of the period we calculate the average ranking for every team and collate all of the analysis provided by rankers.

The app then generates a post that is first proofread and then posted to /r/hockey!

## Rankings

Ranking (avg) | Team | Delta | Overall Record | Record This Week | Comments
:---:|:---:|:----:|:----:|:----:|:----:|
1 (2.34) | [New Jersey Devils](/r/devils) | 2 | 8-1-0 | 4-0-0 | **silkeystev says** WE"RE #1, WE'RE #1. I don't care if this might not last forever, this team is an unbeatable wagon right now. Nearly everyone is contributing and the goalies are doing enough or more to win. This is a high most of us haven't felt in years and I hope all of us are soaking it in as much as possible. |
2 (3.34) | [Carolina Hurricanes](/r/canes) | - | 6-2-0 | 1-2-0 | **timmablimma says** I would really like to have Slavin, Gostisbehere, K'Andre Miller and several other injuries back. Getting 1/3 against Vegas, Colorado and Dallas with 3 rookies on defense and a first pair of Scott Walker and Mike Reilly is well amazing. Dallas should've washed this team out with that defense and a career AHLer in Bussi, but the Hurricanes made it a game. The power play sucks. At this point I'd rather run anyone else on it and just try something new. 6.9% is pathetic. |
3 (5.63) | [Utah Mammoth](/r/) | 7 | 8-2-0 | 4-0-0 | **oksoundtracks says** I can't believe what this team is doing right now. It feels like everybody is firing on all cylinders. Veggie and Vanecek are both killing it, but they really don't have to with the way our offense is flowing. Cooley had a natural hat trick followed up by another 3-point night, Guenther scored his 2000th game winning goal, Schmaltz is playing the best hockey of his career, and Keller continues to be our consistent leader. And the most important part: Our Lord and Savior, Tusky. May his reign last for 1000 years. I don't know how long this can last, but I'll cherish it while I can! Tusks up! |
4 (5.97) | [Colorado Avalanche](/r/coloradoavalanche) | -2 | 5-1-4 | 0-1-3 | **hockeycross says** Avs need to put together a full game effort. They have failed to win for 4 straight games. 3 extra points makes the week salvageable, but not ideal. Team still looks good, but getting blackwood back will be helpful. Wedgewood is starting to look a bit over extended. |
5 (6.03) | [Montreal Canadiens](/r/habs) | 1 | 7-3-0 | 3-1-0 | **ryanwalts says** Matheson playing like a star 1D was not on my bingo card, but here we are baby. This group loves the big moments - another week, another set of blood-pressure spikes. Their underlying numbers are significantly improved from last year and they look cohesive in every zone. Some of the individual hot streaks will dry up, but there's still room to get more out of their young guys (excluding Dobes?) even with the strong play so far. Tougher stretch upcoming will be a good test of what they can do against better opponents! |
6 (6.26) | [Winnipeg Jets](/r/winnipegjets) | -2 | 6-3-0 | 2-2-0 | **rasera says** Earning wins against a team on a historical struggle, and then losing to teams with players that are actually trying to win says enough for how this week went. Depth can only take you so far when you're missing key folks and the team is absolutely putting in the effort in attempts to win. Our guys will be back sooner than later, and they are much missed right now. |
7 (6.89) | [Vegas Golden Knights](/r/goldenknights) | -2 | 5-1-3 | 1-1-1 | **bahamas_is_relevant says** Weird week, but can't really justify dropping the guys any lower. Dominant win over a fellow heavyweight in Carolina to start, but then an inexplicable four-day break leading into a tough B2B against dangerous FLA and TBL squads. The r/hockey Hate Bowl sucked, nothing more to say, and the TBL game was mostly bad. Offense wasn't there either night - the boys have to wake up at somepoint as one goal in two games won't cut it, albeit rust from the break probably played a role. However, Akira Schmid has looked mostly solid in relief of an again-injured Adin Hill, and top prospect Carl Lindbom showed off his stuff in an impressive debut versus the Bolts. Sucks that the offense gave him little to no support, but 26/28 and an OTL against likes of Kucherov, Hagel, and Guentzel is an encouraging start for the former 7th-round pick. |
8 (7.66) | [Washington Capitals](/r/caps) | -1 | 6-3-0 | 2-1-0 | **dagetawayman421 says** The Caps can play amazing hockey on night and throw up a clunker the next. After playing stifling games against the Kraken and Jackets, they came home to celebrate Ovi's 1500th game and just did not show up. The entire right side of the defense got shredded. Carlson genuinely looked like he didn't know where the puck was half and time and TvR, while he did score the goal, was only noticeable until then because you'd see him chasing the guy with the puck from behind going towards the net. Maybe don't spend all day trying to mimic Ovi's rap video from 15 years ago. Hopefully Ovi gets 900 sometime this week so there's another milestone to celebrate. I still don't know what goalie interference is |
9 (9.89) | [Pittsburgh Penguins](/r/penguins) | 2 | 6-2-1 | 2-0-1 | **melon-collie_ says** An interesting week for the Penguins. Their goaltending continues to carry them, with Silovs stopping every shot after the first against Vancouver and Jarry playing extremely well to keep them in both the Panthers and Jackets games. The win over Florida was their first real quality victory of the season. Vancouver iced a mostly Abbotsford lineup, and they were extremely lucky to escape Columbus with a point. With long-term injuries to Rickard Rakell and Caleb Jones, we’ll see if they can keep pace. This team still isn’t as good as its record suggests, and even a modest regression from Jarry could send them crashing back toward the bottom. |
10 (9.91) | [Detroit Red Wings](/r/detroitredwings) | -2 | 6-3-0 | 1-2-0 | **americanada98 says** Well that's what I get for placing Detroit in the top 3 last week. 2.5 out of 3 games where they didn't seem to know what hockey was. Fortunately, they finished the game against St Louis spectacularly and came out of the week 2nd in the Atlantic. The good: Alex Debrincat finally getting a goal. He's been generating a ton, so it was good to see it finally be rewarded. The bad: The majority of the week tbh. Nothing really looked very good in the first 2 games. The ugly: Kane is still not back and as of yet we still only have vague comments about his eventual return. |
11 (11.29) | [Dallas Stars](/r/dallasstars) | -2 | 5-3-1 | 2-1-1 | **rawrberry_ says** The Stars ended their four game losing streak with a win at home against the Canes. The Stars did fall behind 2-0 before they made a comeback to win 3-2. The Stars keep allowing the other teams to score first which needs to change. Wyatt and Mikko are still looking good. Roope did take a hit on Saturday and missed the game on Sunday. Season is still new so not much to complain about |
12 (12.03) | [Seattle Kraken](/r/seattlekraken) | 0 | 5-2-2 | 2-2-0 | **mukuu says** My god. I'm beginning to believe. We are in very dangerous territory of being "a competitive team." And by that I mean I have the Kraken in the top 10 and they are absolutely competitive. First two losses this week and, honestly, both were not bad games. Kraken are looking like a serious threat on the ice due to the fact that they are actually playing hockey. I am not joking. Look at all my blurbs last year, it was constant frustration because the kraken are great but they just are not playing hockey. They are starting to work hard and have a desire to make it happen, and it is really showing. The Kraken, for the first time in a long time, are a lot of fun to watch. |
13 (13.8) | [Florida Panthers](/r/floridapanthers) | 0 | 5-5-0 | 2-1-0 | No Panthers blurb this week, sorry. |
14 (14.6) | [Edmonton Oilers](/r/edmontonoilers) | 1 | 4-4-2 | 2-1-1 | **eatingasspatties says** Another mixed bag of a week for the Oilers. A tight OT win in Ottawa, a ref-assisted win they was highly undeserved against Montreal, and a close loss to Seattle (Vancouver game pending). The PP is starting to figure it out, which is neat. The main thing to work on right now is to stop giving the puck away in their own zone, which the Oilers are making look almost impossible. |
15 (16) | [Toronto Maple Leafs](/r/leafs) | -1 | 4-4-1 | 1-2-0 | **lang14 says** Terrible week for the Leafs. I'm glad Woll is back. This team went out and got tons of guys for an identity and they still lack identity. McCabe doing great. Joshua is on the board. Maybe the Buds will start waking up. Congrats to Tavares on 499! Looking forward to #500. |
16 (19.26) | [Ottawa Senators](/r/ottawasenators) | 4 | 4-4-1 | 2-0-1 | **driftshade11 says** Finally things are starting to round back into form a little bit. Glad to see the team's starting to actually play more like how it played last year, and hopefully they can get back into the positive win and goal column next week. |
17 (20) | [Columbus Blue Jackets](/r/bluejackets) | 2 | 4-4-0 | 2-1-0 | **steckums says** A tiny special teams improvement this week. Our PP% is now 15% which is good for 27th! But, our PK is now dead last in the league because of a few garbage-time goals on a major penalty. Coach Evason has liked a lot of what he has seen and has been reinforcing that success will come. Success should come this week with games against the Sabres, Blues, and Islanders. |
18 (20.49) | [Anaheim Ducks](/r/anaheimducks) | 5 | 4-3-1 | 2-1-0 | **We are currently looking for a new Ducks ranker, if you are a Ducks fan and are interested in joining us please message /u/ThatMikeGuy429** |
19 (20.6) | [Philadelphia Flyers](/r/flyers) | 5 | 4-3-1 | 2-1-0 | **assassin2107 says** This team continues to look better. Vladar is continuing to be steady, and the secondary offense is continuing. Several guys look to be on a different level this year. Drysdale seems UNLUCKY to only be 3 points in 8 games, and Zegras has 8 points in those 8 games and has been steadily improving. If it wasn't for Michkov and TK continuing to look off, then Flyers would be looking fantastic right now. |
20 (21.74) | [New York Islanders](/r/newyorkislanders) | 8 | 4-3-1 | 2-0-1 | **ThatMikeGuy429 says** The four game win streak comes to an and and Schaefer's record point steak also ends, but things are still looking good with his development already looking like one of the best players in the league, now add on Warren making his NHL debut with a two point game and other players developing well in other leagues like the NCAA, AHL, CHL, ect... and the Isles future looks great. But with how well the team is playing and how the players look more free on the ice it makes me need to ask the question; did Lou interfere with how Trots, Lambert, and Roy ran the team? or is it just a placebo? |
21 (21.8) | [Chicago Blackhawks](/r/hawks) | 5 | 4-3-2 | 1-1-0 | **sandman730 says** The Hawks are off to a good 4-3-2 start. Knight leads the league with 9.8 GSAA (per MoneyPuck). Nazar leads the team with 9 points in 9 games. The Hawks traded Reichel to the Canucks. |
22 (22) | [Vancouver Canucks](/r/canucks) | -6 | 5-5-0 | 1-3-0 | No Canucks blurb this week, sorry. |
23 (22.2) | [St. Louis Blues](/r/stlouisblues) | -5 | 3-4-1 | 0-2-1 | **beedrill13 says** Nightmare week for the Blues, capped by a blown 4-0 lead to the Red Wings on Saturday. Going into this season I felt the Blues had the best goalie tandem in the league but so far we have been by far the worst in the league. I would like to think this should get better, but if neither Hofer nor Binnington can be reliable between the pipes we're in big trouble. On the bright side, Jake Neighbours is having the breakout start to the season all Blues fans had hoped for. |
24 (22.6) | [Buffalo Sabres](/r/sabres) | 6 | 4-4-1 | 2-1-1 | No Sabers blurb this week, sorry. |
25 (22.8) | [Nashville Predators](/r/predators) | 0 | 4-4-2 | 2-2-0 | **thefragrancevol says** The Nashville Predators have entered a stretch in which they have to play 10 games in 18 days. They've actually done decently so far, and the games have been rather close. We pushed the Dallas Stars relatively far tonight and forced them to produce a game winner in the 3rd period, which they obviously produced, but I feel like last year's team would have gone 1-3 so far through this stretch. I feel like the way this plays out will be a pretty good indicator of how things will go for the rest of the season, so let's hope for the best. |
26 (23.06) | [Los Angeles Kings](/r/losangeleskings) | 1 | 4-3-3 | 3-0-1 | **raymondliang says** Better hockey this week now that our defense has somewhat stabilized by separating Ceci and Dumoulin. Clarke is proving to be our best defenseman by a mile and needs to be played more (he wont cuz our coach is still a dinosaur). Goaltending has been iffy, we dont need Kuemper to be a vezina candidate again but he needs to be at least average. Now, time to string some regulation wins together... gotta close games out. |
27 (23.34) | [New York Rangers](/r/rangers) | -10 | 3-5-2 | 0-2-1 | **nodessb says** Yikes, big yikes even. Things are not looking great considering the team just handed the Sharks their first win. Unfortunately, it was not very surprising. Things are looking pretty bleak, but if they can string together a few decent wins then the outlook would certainly be significantly better. I want to be optimistic that this team can turn it around, but I am definitely concerned. Regardless, LGR! |
28 (24.57) | [Boston Bruins](/r/bostonbruins) | -7 | 4-6-0 | 1-2-0 | **maxpowr9 says** I don't want to talk about crying Marchand, or the quacky Ducks game, or the Avs' impotent PP. I want to talk about the betrayal of Hampus Lindholm, wearing a MB fleece on Behind the B. Did Sturm bribe him and give him the 'A' to wear that? Ever since Big Penus Linus left, there has been a void of a Swede sponsoring Volvo in MA. Hampus does commercials already, but is too good for Volvo? Does the healthier Lindholm have to take that sponsorship instead? |
29 (24.97) | [Minnesota Wild](/r/wildhockey) | -7 | 3-5-2 | 1-2-1 | **paynetrain181999 says** A decent win against the Rangers has been long forgotten after two stomping's and, just as I write this, a heartbreaker OT loss to the Sharks. When Marcus Johansson has been our best goal scorer of late, something has got to change. I'm talking Hynes, Guerin, or both. Both of them are past their expiration date with this team, now watch nothing be done now that I say that. At the very least, Zeev Buium has been off to a fantastic start to his rookie campaign. |
30 (25) | [Tampa Bay Lightning](/r/tampabaylightning) | -1 | 3-4-2 | 2-1-0 | **keepitsteadyidiots says** Finally putting some wins together. They could be 4-4-2 if not for a late turnover by Kuch in the game against Chicago and if he had even put in any effort to back check. It definitely feels like Coop is still trying to figure out who is going to be a regular in the lineup and what his lines will be. And he does not have much time to do so as Crozier is set to return soon as well as Nick Paul. Those players in the bottom 6 and 5/6 defense better give it their all or they will find themselves in Syracuse quick. |
31 (30.89) | [San Jose Sharks](/r/sanjosesharks) | 1 | 2-5-2 | 2-2-0 | **sarbni says** 0 wins to 2 wins; this team is starting to hum. We've gotten past the blowout losses from last week and everything this week was competitive. We've found some forward lines that work but the defense is still atrocious. There are long stretches of games where we look like the better team, but when we make a mistake it's *bad*. Congrats to Macklin for being the 4th teenager in NHL history to record multiple 5-point games. (Team Canada, pleeease) |
32 (31.46) | [Calgary Flames](/r/calgaryflames) | -1 | 2-7-1 | 1-2-1 | **kellervo says** An impressive last minute showing against New York doesn't change the fact we've been pretty awful out the gates. The team needs to score more than 2 goals / game for a week before I consider putting them anywhere but the bottom. |

r/Hockey NHL & PWHL Power Rankings Week 3: NO BS Edition!
