Honoring Unsaved Parents

Discussion

Hey yall! I am a first generation apostolic. I’ve been serving the Lord for 7 years now and I’m heavily involved in ministry in my local church. God called me to missions about 6 months after I received the Holy Ghost. Since then I’ve gone on 1 AYC, done the Next Steps Program, and I’m currently on AIM for a second time.

My parents are divorced and I have a step mom and a step dad. My dad and step mom are entirely against me pursuing missions, and just against me being in church entirely. They are very vocal of their disapproval of me going overseas. My mom is a little more accepting. Mostly she’s curious. My step dad doesn’t agree, but he is supportive. Even with all the challenges God has spoken promise after promise to me about my family. God has been moving in ways I never expected in my siblings, and even in my dad while I’ve been overseas.

I try my best to honor my parents, but it is not easy. I’m 25 now, and I’m no longer under their roof but I still want to honor them as much as is possible. I am always respectful to them, and I listen to the advice they give (within reason, they do not have the Holy Ghost).

Mostly I want to hear what you guys have to say about honoring unsaved parents. What’s y’all’s take?
