Can you play Avowed without the XBOX App on PC?

I bought Avowed on Steam in late april, only to find out I needed the XBOX PC App to play the game. Sadly my computer doesn't like the XBOX PC App, so I had to return the game as I wasn't able to play it.

Does anyone know if you can play Avowed on another PC launcher like Epic or GOG without the need of the XBOX PC App? Of if they're changed the setup on Steam so you can avoid it?

Thanks in advance :)
