Apartment won’t release my holding deposit to me

I applied to an apartment complex with a roommate and a guarantor in Atlanta, GA. I entered my bank details and was charged a refundable holding deposit. My roommate bailed last minute so I returned the holding deposit by check. The complex put the roommates, her guarantor who lives 4 hours away, and me on the check so I cannot cash it. It came directly out of my bank account, but they are saying they cannot release the check to me. I’m thinking of emailing corporate and telling them I’ll take it to small claims. Can they release the check to me?
