[Castillo] (Adam) Silver must also provide written responses to six questions from the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. The questions are in total six, with a handful containing multiple parts, and the NBA commissioner must submit them by Nov. 10.
As the league continues to find its bearings in the wake of the scandal, senators Ted Cruz and Maria Cantwell have hit the NBA commissioner with a serious demand in a rare bipartisan letter. This comes after it was revealed that Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue and NBA legend Kevin Garnett also had been caught up in the incident.
In a four-page letter sent to Silver by Cruz and Cantwell, the final sentence in the first paragraph read: "In light of the latest allegations of gambling-related corruption involving an NBA player, we write seeking more information about how the NBA investigated and handled these allegations as well as what steps the Association is taking to maintain the public's trust."
The two U.S. senators specifically mentioned their interest in the NBA's investigation into the unusual betting activity on Rozier's under prop stats in a March 2023 game, during which the league "did not find a violation of NBA rules." The game, which the then-Charlotte Hornets guard allegedly exited early due to a supposed injury in a scheme aimed at allowing gamblers to profit from prop bets on his unders, was mentioned in the FBI probe, leading to Rozier's arrest.
After outlining the rationale for the letter, the senators also wrote: "This is a matter of Congressional concern. The integrity of NBA games must be trustworthy and free from the influence of organized crime or gambling-related activity. Sports betting scandals like this one may lead the American public to assume that all sports are corrupt."
Silver must also provide written responses to six questions from the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. The questions are in total six, with a handful containing multiple parts, and the NBA commissioner must submit them by Nov. 10.
