Karlin or Vinohrady?

Have a very last minute trip coming up to Prague, flying on Friday and staying for 3 nights.

Usually I don't like staying in the prime tourist hotspots but don't want to be too far from the centre as I will want to do the usual tourist bits at some point.

A quick search has pointed me towards either Karlin or Vinohrady. Does anybody have a view of the pros and cons of each, or specific hotels they'd recommend?

Primary things I'm interested in are more local feeling restaurants, and obviously nice beer (that isn't silly tourist prices) but I suspect the beer won't be too difficult to find
