My boyfriend's Dad has Active TB & I'm scarred
Hello everyone, so recently I got to know that my partner's dad (they live together) recently got diagnosed with active TB & is hospitalized since a week now..... To give you some background the doctors failed to diagnose TB earlier & labelled it as pneumonia until it got so bad that now he is in ICU & his lungs were filled with water so they had put a pipe and removed it.... Most of his left lung is non-functional now. He is put on a non-invasive ventilator as of now, but the doctors have started the treatment & they said it will improve.
Now my real concern is him(my partner) being exposed to Active TB for a long time without even knowing that it was TB... He stays at the hospital 24*7 with his dad & I'm pretty sure that he got exposed to it. I have seen him cough alot before all of this happened, I thought it was normal cough & hence didn't take it too seriously. We have been in closed space for 5 days straight up (real close, kissing & all) before his dad was admitted to the hospital. Does that put me to exposure too?
Also, for now I will be staying away from him for my safety as he might be carrying the bacteria too. He said he will get tested after his dad is fine but not sure how long it will take for his dad to be discharged.... Ideally what time should we wait for before we meet again.?....
All of this is so nerve wrecking, any help/advice would be truly appreciated, thank you.
