My Very First Encounter

Here goes. First post of this kind. Hope you can share yours too. Would love to hear yours.

This is from last winter 2024. I am a busy gardener but an amateur at it. I love to be in my garden everyday doing bits and pieces in rain snow frost etc. If not to do anything then just to enjoy and tal to the plants and flowers and insects. Always find interesting things and learn new things just by being there and noticing things / nature.

So one such early winter morning I was just adjusting the sheltered plants a bit when I noticed a sad, looking robin fly close to me. I ignored it as you do not want to interefere and scare it away. As I continued my bits and pieces saw that he robin would come quite close to me and just look at me. I was a bit surprised as the ground was hard and there was nothing for it to peck on , get to earthworms.

The next day the same thing. I would be in my garden and it would come by and flitter quite close to me . I noticed that it looked quite weak. I kept an eye out for it for a couple more days. In the meantime I did some learning and had bought some bird seed and fat balls. I was afraid that it may die due to the cold weather and not finding food.

The next day I built a little haven for it quite spacy but protected from other animals too. Left the bird seeds, fat balls and some water. To my happiness, I saw it come and the next thing I know; the poor thing had fed itself to over satisfaction and had nodded off on the seed tray itself. I think it was starving and getting weaker by the day. I started to put fresh food out everyday for it.

To my sheer joy one day it had brought along a little baby robin with it, showing it the works. I was glad to know that I helped something struggling to get by and my returns was to see a new fledgling.

Now the robins come everytime when I am in my garden and I keep a look out for them specially so in the winters when it is hard to find food.

I have been educating myself about how to protect and look after our nature without being destructive and obstructive.

I am happy to say I have many more such stories to share. Let me know what you do for nature around you . Maybe I can get some tips.
