How did Concertina's become associated with pirates?

The instrument was invented in the 1800's. At least 60 years after the Golden Age of Pirates ended. Yet in so much media, we see 16th century pirates playing a 17th century instrument, when not hearing the instrument in the work's score. So, how did a 1800's instrument become associated with pirates from the 1700's?
