Question about my persisting hamstring injury. (6 weeks)
TLDR: Minor strain in hamstring 6 weeks ago, still have discomfort, don't know what to do without losing progress.
Hi. I've been having trouble dealing with my hamstring injury, and I hope someone can help me or clarify some things.
About 6 weeks ago, i strained my hamstring while sprinting. I am training to try and get on a college soccer team in America when i go there to study, and really wanted to up my condition and speed, so a lot of training sessions were just me sprinting, jogging, sprinting again etc. Basically simulating a match as far as I could. It did not seem severe, no bruising, just a minor strain.
After a few days of rest, and doing some research. I returned to my regular strength training programme, albeit significantly reduced for my injured leg as i understood I had to build my strength up again. But i didn't want to go all my process go to waste, i'm sure many of you can relate. I kept on running, jogging, not sprinting, but long distances, like i said, i wanted to keep up my fitness and endurance, and thought that jogging was fine, and my physiologist confirmed that for me, as long as I was not feeling pain. I had physiotherapy for 3 weeks, but he did not do much more than massage, and my health insurance didn't cover me for more treatments so i thought i could do without.
I've been doing this to this day. Building up strength, started sprinting at 50%, slowly increasing by something every week. But the pain, if you can call it that, never goes away. It's not hurting per sé, it's discomfort, it feels fragile, and it's constant, especially when seated a long time. I just feel it all the time, and it leads me to think i'm a long way off from recovery.
But it's been 6 weeks. I feel some improvement, but shouldn't the pain be gone by now? Shouldn't i feel more stability and strength in my hammie by now? I've been stretching, working out and trying to recover like crazy, but i'm getting a bit impatient, also because there is some time pressure for achieving my goal. I feel like maybe i should just lay off all activities and wait, but i don't want to lose progress and surely that can't be the way to go, every treatment i read about mentions staying active, but at the same time, I'm getting more and more afraid of working out because it might be hampering with my recovery.
I'm hoping someone can help me with my questions or share experiences. Thank you for reading!
