Like many freelancers starting out, I had no idea what to charge. Was €400/day good? Too low? Would asking for €600 lose me opportunities ?
And even now since the market fluctuates sometimes you get doubts whether you might be asking too much when in fact you're just in a bad market and your rate is fine.

After working with dozens of companies directly and seeing what they actually pay (versus what agencies tell freelancers), I realized the rate calculation is more complex than most people think and many parameters can be taken into account which I tried to translate into the algorithm that operates my calculator.

So the tool I built tries to include most of the parameters I've encountered to influence the rate the company is willing to pay. It's free, takes 2 minutes, and gives you a realistic range based on:

* Your technology/role
* Experience level required (senior, medior and junior not being values but appreciations I let you decide what you consider those are in terms of years of experience)
* The company itself (big, small, banks, public, etc)
* The complexity of the project targeted

It's not perfect, some niche technologies are harder to price accurately, but it's helped me and the freelancers I work with avoid getting lowballed by agencies.
