Recently started the show. Opinion + Discussion
Hello everyone! Recently started the show and have been watching it on my free time. Reached Epsidoe 9 of Season 3 and here's what i think:
I love the show. I always wondered about how royal families works in modern times (aka not medieval ones) and how it interacts in a Constitutional Monarchy type. And especially i was curious about what kind of person Queen Elizabeth II was.
But I realize this isn't documentary and Netflix drama show. So I know that even if some actual events are shown, they are most definitely overdramatised. But to that I'll come back later.
And I also noticed one thing: all the characters are sorta mischaracterised as the show entered Season 3. Like Elizabeth, from a person who went to compromises and visibly hurt when she is forced to take traditional route, turned into a traditionalist with a stone face. or Philip from a charismatic person who only just became an actual nobleman with a name turned into a boring man with mid-life crisis, who practically hates every person he meets. And there might be other examples, but I kinda forgot them.
And my least favorite character is mother of Elizabeth and Margaret. Everytime someone comes to her for an advise and she completely disregards what her family members would feel and disregards any kind of compromise and innovation possibility, and that feeling was amplified when in Season 3 the actress gives that sweet grandma smile. And I swear, every scene where Elizabeth, Margaret and their mother are sitting behind a table and eat, while discussion something, I began called these scenes as "Old Bats' dinner scenes". And God, this show does make me feel bad for Margaret and Charles. But knowing from actual history that Charles is quite shady, I feel like his characterison of "Neglected child that wants to be acknowledged and was touched by Welsh struggles that he went behind Queen's back" looks more like whitewashing of the irl person, even though Season 3 was done way before Queen's passing.
So, here's the question to people here that are familiar with the show and actual history of IRL Royal Family: How accurate are those characterisations? What are innaccuracies in the show in terms of characters, events and relationships? What events in show are complete fiction?
I dunno if I'll write another post here as I finish the show to ask for more inaccuracies in the show, so you might tell me some of the small spoilers, but only in terms of like "yes, she likes her now, and in the show their relationships deteriotate, but irl it wasn't a case".
In any case, thanks for the attention. I look forward to discussion.
