Online art critique spaces fucking suck
I think it's partially due to just. How normalized being mean is on the internet but HOLY FUCK. A week ago a bunch of people managed to convince me I was somehow the equivalent of someone who only knew how to draw chicken scratch. Could I improve? Yes! I'm young (20) there's so much room for improvement! But I've also had people buy stuff from me with my art. Clearly I have to be doing SOMETHING right.
You're never allowed to ever rebut this stuff, either. If someone says 'this looks like a blob' and it clearly doesn't and you know that, don't you DARE SAY IT! You'll get dogpiled. I hate that you just have to take and agree to everything, even if it's wrong! This isn't to say that I haven't gotten good criticisms (I have!) but legitimately I've also gotten terrible ones. So so many terrible ones.
I don't know, just fuck that shit. The kind of critiques I would get would be laughed out of an art class or the prof would tell them 'Explain that in more detail.' It almost ALWAYS is the negatives too. Never telling you what you're doing right, always what you're doing WRONG. God forbid you tell someone what to keep going on, what you like.
Maybe I'm just being stupid. NAH. Fuck that. I never allow myself to fucking push back. FUCK THAT. I've gotten good criticisms, and for those people I thank them, but to the people who have treated me like I don't know how to hold a pencil eat shit.
