Can't see original comments from replies. Major flaw?

So I get a YouTube notification that someone has replied my comment. I tap on the notification, it opens the app to their reply. But it's shown as a "highlighted reply," not within the actual comment thread). I can't see my original comment, only the newest reply to it. So if I want to see my original comment, I have to either scour the entire comments section to try to hunt it down, or find it in my account history to contextualize the new reply.

Isn't there a way to display replies in the original comment thread? Is this a bug in the app, a flaw in the entire platform, just poor design choice by the developer?

Anyone else notice this? I'm very surprised more people aren't upset about this very aggravating experience. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I'm on Android, if that makes a difference.
