AIO for doctors not knowing what was wrong during my childbirth?

⚕️ health

During my last childbirth I received an epidural. Somewhere in that process the medication disproportionately disbursed throughout my body, reaching my facial area and nervous system. I did not know this at the time.

All I knew was my left eye completely started to close (physically I could NOT open it) and that side of my face felt heavy. My two eyes were completely different SIZES when this happened.

I was under a great deal of stress trying to focus on active labor while also wondering why I was going blind (so I thought) as my eye was physically closing and I couldn’t see or control the eye.

I immediately called the doctors in and they suggested “cleaning out my contact” as maybe my contacts were dirty? I was appalled that was their first response. I had them look at my eyes (they could see the visual difference) and I explained the heaviness as well.

Still when they would come back and forth to the room no solutions or ideas were offered to research the situation or listen to my concerns.

I was extremely calm through the situation but I was upset this wasn’t being taken seriously.

Long story short the eye remained almost closed until the middle of that night, and slowly went back to normal after the effects of the epidural wore off.

I explained to them I thought there was direct correlation between my eye closing and the epidural going wrong. They never agreed or entrained that idea.

Well, by the next morning a different doctor came in and apologized and said I got a very “rare” condition called Horner’s Syndrome that manifested from the failed epidural. They acknowledged that must have felt “really scary”.

AIO that I’m still really upset that no doctor took it seriously the day of my birth?

I could not emotionally focus on labor because I was so distraught about losing my vision during that time and unable to see.

Curious your input!
