Surplus Lines Insurance?

I saw an add for some company I don't remember now on TV the other night that specifically was for homeowners in CA and was a surplus line carrier. I'm familiar with surplus line carriers as I use one on a commercial building I have in FL and have even had a claim paid by them. Curious if anyone has used them here in CA for homeowners, or earthquake, flood, etc?
