Should I take over my father's successful business or follow my dream of becoming an engineer at Lockheed Martin?
My father owns a very successful textile company, and he plans to hand everything over to me after I graduate. Financially, it’s a really solid opportunity — stable, profitable, and already well-established.
But ever since I was a kid, I’ve dreamed of working in defense engineering, ideally at Lockheed Martin or Skunk Works. I’m currently studying mechanical engineering, and that passion for aerospace and advanced systems is still strong.
Now I feel stuck between two paths:
One guarantees a comfortable and successful life, but maybe not personal fulfillment.
The other is uncertain and extremely competitive, but it’s what I’ve always wanted to do.
Has anyone here faced a similar situation — between a family business and a personal dream? How did you decide which path to take?
Any perspective would really help me clear my head.
