Help … advice sought please

Hey folks - I don’t know much about cars so I’m here reaching out to folks that obviously know a hell of a lot more than me.

I have £8k to buy a car - what should I get? I won’t be doing a lot of mileage so not too shy of a high mileage car.

My immediate thought is a BMW 1 series.

Any thoughts, advice, watch points? All greatly appreciated!
