Message from property management - England
Hello everyone!
I recently moved in with a new roommate, we both moved into the flat in late September and we've had some issues with the electric and water. We were offered to have our electric meter changed by the energy company (EDF) and they replaced our old prepaid one with a new monthly billing one, no charge. I didn't realize when I did it, but this is against the contract (there was something wrong with it, as with no heating and neither of us being in the apartment much, we had spent about £170 from 26th Sept to the 24 Oct, which feels absurd.
Anyways, since moving in, I have contacted the letting agent two times about issues with the hot water - it's not hot past 9am, sometimes earlier, sometimes later, and it never lasts all day. In addition, I went to take a shower on Saturday at 7:30 as in the past, the water has been hot at that time, and it was ice cold. My roommate wasn't even in the house from Friday night until Saturday night so I know she didn't use it up. I brought this up to the agent and I received the reply in the photo - is this legal? Is he allowed to ask us to pay that fee? It doesn't say anything about it in the contract aside from the same thing it says in the Tenant Fees Act 2019.
Thanks in advance for your help!
