What are the chances a guy comes back after being initially rejected after two dates?

I (F28) met this guy (M28) online about 4 weeks ago and we got along right away. I rarely feel effortless attraction to guy and it was the first time in many years where I genuinely liked someone without having to convince myself. It felt so special and I finally understood what people meant by “falling in love”. We had super fun two dates in total and he kissed me a few times on our second date. After that second date things went even better and the texting increased, he flirted more with me and we planned our third date for the week after.

But then suddenly on the Monday of the third week the slow fading from his end started. He has a very busy job and it requires a lot from him and I understand and respect that. He cancelled on our third date and the slow fading got even worse. I addressed the distance and asked if he’s still interested because it made me feel bad and then he admitted that he’s not sure exactly what it is. He replied saying that he is not certain whether it is because he has so many things going on right now (the busy things of his life) or that if it’s indeed the interest factor. He said there’s nothing wrong me and that I’m great but he said that he doesn’t feel the romantic connection right now. He said let’s revisit this after my backpacking trip (he’s going away for a month) and then maybe we can see if there’s a romantic connection after all.

I just felt such a rare connection and for a while I thought it was mutual. I was really upset after his last message but I told him I respect his decision and just left it at that.

What are the chances that he will come back around? :( is the lack of romantic connection due to me not being attractive enough for him?

TL;DR: after initially being rejected for not feeling the romantic connection and suggesting to revisit it to see if it can still come after his holiday of a month, is it possible a guy comes back to you?
