first rifle purchase recommendation

While my permit is being issued, I thought it would be a good time to research which rifle to buy.

I’d appreciate your opinion on which rifle to choose. If you have a recommendation, that would be great.

My budget for a long gun is about $1,000. This will be my first rifle, so I don’t want to spend an extreme amount. I would be using the rifle for target shooting at range.

I’m interested in 5.56 caliber, but I’m also considering converting to .22 — is it safe to shoot .22 after converting a 5.56 rifle?
