Landlords are getting so much worse
My girlfriend and I have moved twice since 2020; both times it's been harder to coordinate with property management companies that seem to be spread thinner and thinner and letting more things slip.
The apartment we ended up going with was in the middle of maintenance at the time we toured and sure enough they left extremely glaring issues with the windows and a few fixtures in the apartment - basically anything that would require they order new hardware is just not fixed or "fixed" in a superficial way.
I worked a brief stint in a leasing office and I have a sneaking suspicion that we're beginning to see a cascade effect from property management companies running aging buildings like turnkey operations. Between rapid turnover at management companies and the companies themselves turning over (owners replacing their management company with the next lowest bidder), I think something as simple as "fix the windows" becomes a logistical nightmare of trying to figure out where the hell they were ordering XYZ from the last time they needed to, which was 3 years ago before any of the current staff worked at the building.
