Why were high ranking people of enemy factions treated better when captured by enemy forces?
In the case of British allied war prisoners, I see that officers were sent to a more lush prison. I also connected that in medieval times, it was expected to treat nobility with decency, let them preserve their noble titles, & IIRC expected for enemy factions (medieval) to comply with ransom offers.
